Five Tips to Prep Your Home for Sale
1. Focus on the area around the front door.
The first thing buyers see when they walk up to your home is the entryway-so make sure it gives a positive impression.
- Brighten up your home.
Open curtains and blinds on every window. Clean the window frames and glass. Clean the floors and clean under beds. A bright home feels bigger, cleaner and happier than a dark closed off home.
- Neutralize odors.
Neutralize odors to make sure your home smells fresh. That means you don’t want your home to be overwhelmed by plugin air fresheners or scented candles. Remove pet items, shoes, gym & hockey bags and anything that holds onto odors. Open windows to help neutralize odors.
- Declutter- And then declutter some more!
Organize closets and drawers. Remove excess clothing from closets and put them into storage. Fold and hang clothe neatly leaving extra space to make your closets look bigger. Empty and clean the refrigerator. Remove excess kitchen accessories to enlarge the space. Serious buyers are going to look everywhere to make sure your home is “the one for them”.
- Clean the forgotten spaces.
Sweep and clean up the clutter in the garage. Remove dust and clean in the storage rooms. Clean the furnace, hot water heater and unfinished surfaces in the basement. Your home is clean. The yard looks great. All clutter is removed but there is a big layer of dust and clutter in the forgotten areas.
The cleaner the house is, “the better”.
